The recommendations I will be giving you regarding Heart Disease Prevention come from "Strategies to prevent heart disease" - from the Mayo Clinic
The recommendations:
1. Stop Smoking.
2. Be at a healthy weight.
3. Be physically active.
4. Eat a heart-healthy diet.
Two examples of heart-healthy food plans include the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan and the Mediterranean diet.
5. Get enough quality sleep.
6. Manage stress.
7. Get regualar screenings.
High blood pressure and high cholesterol can damage your heart and blood vessels.
But without testing for them, you probably won't know whether you have these conditions.
It is important to note that two most important recommendations after Stop Smoking are:
Be at a healthy weight, which the report defines as a BMI between 24.9 and 18.5
Be physically active, which the report defines as at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
Note that the recently released Physical Activity Guidelines 2018 by the US Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.
